School Days

Let's try out something new; Visual Novels. And to start us up, School Days; one of the more infamous selections.

Alright, so first off why the hell is this game on both the PSP and Ps2? Like... Jeez, no decency at all when this came was being developed. None the less, here's my thoughts as quoted by a review."School days is another "Romantic Visual Novel," slice of life blah blah blah. Follows a cool dude named Ito as he follows through on his romance with shy girl, big bust Katsure (Who reminded me both in voice and spirit of Harauna from Love-Ru) hijanks ensue... And so do some erotic mentions that weren't necessary for the plot.
Was it good? It was good, not great, but good. The romance was matured, which I love personally, but I disliked the outside forces, and the issues they *attempted* to deal with, specifically that of rape which pretty much was shot over entirely, which actually sickened me.Along with this, the same problem comes with the *side* characters who are morons, or d-bags, and the secondary romance specifically in my route with Katsure, which stemmed from my problem with these side characters. Now, one huge "Claim to fame," for school days is that it used good animation. The voice acting I also enjoyed for what its worth (It felt soothing, and well played.) with some mistakes in the mouths which bothered me abit. Also, the decisions were knitted close to one another, one big step up from linear KS.The H-parts were eh, and I'm bring this up, because I guess it is the main selling point of the VN? Honestly, maybe two were good, but all of it was unnecessary, and I didn't like it. I agreed with KS's H-scenes, specifically that of Hanako's because it was used as the step into maturity, which suited Hanako's story well. But this; though I find Katsure attractive (Her bust being awful though) and a good character, I disliked the force H-scenes that were also poorly executed, cept for the two that I actually liked. Along with this, they were too long. I liked KS's H-scenes because they took less then five minutes, but I must've watch 30 minutes of H-scenes in my play-through of 4 hours. Which in my opinion, is too much, especially when the same scenes are repeated. ....Overall, it was alright. I enjoyed my run of it, and may do more in the future however, the poor side-characters that are unlikable may keep me out. Is School Days over-rated? Yeah, but I'm measuring it to KS, my only other VS that I've played... Which is both free, and superior thanks to Hanako's run. I did enjoy the animation, the style, and the choices in this however, but the side characters were poor, which is my main problem with the VN as a whole.

Now the real question is,
"Should you play it".... No, no, no, no. IT cost 30 dollars in the store, and besides that, it takes 2 days to download manually, if you are to pirate it from the site I went to (49 downloads in .rar) Along with that, the H-scenes really weren't necessary (The port to PS2 and PSP... Yeah, I know, didn't have them.) but they're alright. However, I must counter all that for those looking into it... The relationship between Ito and Katsuna is actually pretty sweet, and I did enjoy it alot; it was well written, well executed, and enjoyable all at the same time.So... 6/10"
