To Love-Ru
I decided to lighten things up with a erotic comedy romp entitled, "To Love Ru," and boy... I am disappointed.
Love Ru is a top-selling Japanese manga turned into an anime featuring 26 episodes and 6 O.V.As'.
It follows a *Normal* boy named Rito and his female "Friends," including his fiance Lala (Princess from space; he got roped into marriage) and his sweet-heart Harauna, as they have misadventures and such in quite a random fashion. As expected hijanks ensue and blah blah blah, basic anime comedy with harem elements.
Now now now... The animation is good, superior to GXP and Girls Bravo (For what it is worth), however, the animation is at time really cheap, and repeats things in a fashion too often so that it is annoying (Will explain later). Still, the music is pretty good, and I enjoy in the intro music in specific, finding myself humming along with it, or when I'm alone at times.
Sadly however, the characters are not music, and Rito is... Very unlikable as a main protagonist for the series. And that is because of one thing; one thing pissed me off about it to the point of hatred for this man: It is love of Harauna, and his relationship with Lala.
Let me explain where I'm coming from on this one: Rito is what I like to call a "punk," he insults the beautiful Lala, and makes googly eyes to Harauna. Their is absolutely no romantic build up between Lala and Rito further cementing my hatred, and even worst... EVEN WORST IS EPISODE 24!
"Why 24," you beg. Well, Lala has some sort of flu that makes her change personalities; the first of her personalities being like Harauna. Rito starts becoming attracted to Lala then...
Further in it, we see that Rito is stuck under robots... He says "I love you," to Lala...
Romantic right?
Cut ahead to episode 26, our "Finale," as Rito utters these words... "It was in the heat of the moment."
He's a d-bag when he utters those words, because hey! We now know that he doesn't love Lala, and is only doing it for the Earth. 26 episodes people! And no change in the romance that those two share...
Lala herself is really likable, probably my favorite character in the anime... And the comedy she carries (Along with the cuteness factor) is "off the charts," especially when she starts taking out her inventions, since they have cute names!
Harauna is generic, and boring, and the rest of the harem train (About 6 or so more girls) are harem fodder.
Episodes, especially in the middle of the series (Episode 11 to 20 or so) are pointless, and interesting for about 11 minutes of the 23 minute run time. It just seemed that they went on, and on, and on, even if the main conflict was long gone. Along with this, episode 21 or so pissed me off because it repeated animation THREE TIMES, along with dialogue and scenario.
Comedy is hit or missed, depended on the character. Though, one of the things I enjoyed was the earlier episodes were almost parody like, which was hilarious. Later episodes were pretty boring though, and bare of any *Good* comedy.
Fan-service was pretty decent, Lala is a cutie as always, and alittle too many underwear shots for my taste. Along with this, To Love-Ru probably had the sleaziest cover angles in existence, basically covering the nudes with well placed light, or weak steam (Could see all cept the n!pple or back-sides.)
Hm, and the ending... Was weak, really, really weak. I want to compare it to My Bride's a Mermaid, but without lessons, or without a full swing of the character arch, or even without likability. Rito was that bad at the end, and they did nothing except "I can have cake, and eat it too," as in... He gets both of his lovers Lala and Harauna (I assumed)

........
...... Do I recommend Love-Ru? No... I suggest that you watch something more interesting, and funnier since 26 episodes is quite a waste of time... However, I did hear about a sequel... An Errotic romp that has no barriers, that is more serious and actually focuses on developing the characters... It is called Love Ru: Darkness...
*Watches First Episode*
... Expect a sequel to this review later... I'll continue... viewing it.
But back to Love-Ru, I give it a 5 out of 10. It was deserving of that, and I won't be viewing it again, only Darkness for the *Plot*
