A World God Only Knows (AWGOK)

Hey look! An anime that isn't completely Fan-service, or a strait up comedy (As much as my previous animes were at-least)! It also doesn't have a Harem (Till season 3)... So now. The real question is: Is it good?
Yeah, but how good?
Well...

A World God Only Knows (From this point forward referred to AWGOK) is a Romantic comedy following Keima Katsuragi, the "God of Conquest" and his ventures to make women fall in love with him, using the techniques of Dating Sims to help him on his way, with the help of a Demon named Elsie (And later with another two Demon's name Nora and Haqua).
Hijanks ensue, and yeah... Let's look at it.

Our protagonist Keima Katsuragi (Now to be referred to as Keima) is the "God of Conquest," a title given to him due to his abilities to conquest any "Gal game" that is thrown his way. Surprisingly, this skill comes in-handy when he is conquering girls in real life.
Keima is an interesting character, people of the show may consider a "Growing character whom is an ass-hat, but you become fond of him," as the show progresses. And yeah, I agree. I personally liked him, specifically when season 3 popped up because you begin to see him really work to gain the affection of the girls; even ignoring "Gal games" to go on his conquest. He really opens up, and is passionate to rekindle the relations, which yeah... It's what I wanted to see the show do.

Elsie is the supporter of the series (Replaced by Haqua in season 3) and a demon from hell who is Keima's buddy when collection the loose souls that reside in each girls body. And let me just say; "Side Female" syndrome (The comedic opportunities to abuse the side-character.) must be deserved. The problem I had with Love-Ru, is that Lala was abused for no reason by Rito making Rito, our "Hero with a harem," look like the bad guy.
The reason why this works with Elsie is because, even though her attentions are good, she makes Keima's life (Early season 1) a living hell.
Keima first off is assigned a clumsy devil, second he put in a contract to capture loose souls (Unless he wants to die) which leaves him too busy to play his "Gal games." Third, Elsie in the first episode, to trick Keima's mother to allow her to stay (As Keima's sister) say to her that "She's her husbands illimitable daughter," which almost causes divorce... Yeah.
Even though Elsie does such a... Horrible, comedic thing, she is still extremely likable, just as I said with Lala. Both are happy, optimistic, and naive about the world. Except, well Elsie likes fire-trucks as-well (Which as pickachugirl would put it, it is, "Hella cute.")

I like Elsie, which annoys me so because we don't have her in season 3, we have her boss Haqua.
Now, the thing about season 3, it goes some places that would've made it better, if they pushed for it. Honestly, Haqua would been a "Favorite" character if the suggest romance with Keima went anywhere. Instead it didn't, and she in turn is a more serious Elsie. She's alright... But I wished either some sort of romance situation would've occurred, or we should have stuck with Elsie.

Even though are "Cemented" characters are good; I dare say that the romances are just as good, if not better. I loved the girls that took place in the conquest. Most of them are "Cliched" VN/Dating Sims girls which fits perfectly with the themes of the show, and they are just REALLY likable. I also love how a difficulty curve was established, and present at *All times* during seasons 1 and 2. This made it feel almost like a dating sim, which put the anime in the right mood.
Now, my only *Major* problem with the girls as a whole takes place during the OVA's and Season 3. Besides the fact that Tenri, one of the *Major* girls of the plot is only in the OVA and season 3, season 3 feels like season 4.
Why is that you ask?
Simple, when we enter season 3, only 8 conquest have been completed. However, season 3 skips to 14 (Or 18, I forgot) and I'm like, "What the hell?"
Even worse, is that 2 women that are major points in season 3 are women captured without us actually seeing it! This... Poor use of women makes those two strangely foreign in a season of recapturing the women.

(BTDubs, my favorite girl is Kanon and/or Jun... *Sigh* I wish Jun was in season 3.)

So, how is the story? Good... I enjoyed the episodes except for a single *Filler* Episode, episode 8, which played out like mid-episode Love-Ru... It was pointless, boring and dumb. Besides that, the show is pretty focused on the conquest, throwing good character after good character in a train of focus...
As said previously, the reason why I enjoyed them moving so quick is because it felt like the pacing of a video game, as they conquested more and more girls, the difficulty increased to make them fall in love with Keima.
The conquest also felt abit tragic to me (Making it all the more interesting) since the girls would lose all memories of Keima after the conquest (Season 3 changes the rules a-bit.), while Keima kept them, which I found to be a depressing thought (And as a result, his break away from society grew.)0

The endings for seasons 1, and 2 were... Weird, to say the least. Though, honestly, the viewing of them would be pointless since the conquests end before them. As for season 3... Let's just talk about it.

Season three is something you will either love, or you will hate. It has returning character yes... But none from season 2. It has a different plot... But it seems more sped (Like SAO's part 2 of season 1). It has more action... But come on, we don't need action right?

Now, what made Season three for me specifically was the commitment Keima gives, and the break away from his personality, finally, after the conquest of so many girl's loves. You do not see him play any games until the end, which shows the drive he is willing to take. We see him admit he is a jerk, something that early seasons wouldn't dare, and the ending... OHHH, if we didn't see him break near the end, if we didn't see tears fall in the ending, it would've sucked more then it had.

Speaking of the ending... It is uneventful, and surprisingly *Lame* with Keima just going... I mean, right after he marries Ayumi, the first conquest, and someone who we honestly didn't connect with.
We also see in Season 3 another iffy connection that is realized as "love" in the manga between Keima and Chihiro... And I don't like Chihiro for her position in the later half of season 3.
Man, they were really rooting for Chihiro in this season near the end... Something I didn't like. Just the entire triangle between Ayumi, Chihiro and Keima near the end was bad...

Other then that, season 3 did everything alright; nothing was really *Bad* and I really didn't hate season 3... Well, except for that ending... Sorta...

I just felt that AWGOK's fared the same fate as Mass Effect... That is that the second season is best and the first and third aren't as good, which makes it even more disappointing that season 3 doesn't have any girls returning, well except for Chihiro, but I would've rather had Jun or Kusunoki (The only girl Keima ever goes on a date with in the entire series.)

Hm, the animation is good to get off that topic, same with the music. The intro music was surprisingly pleasant and very refreshing from the, "LOUD HAPPY MUSIC," shared by my previous anime reviews...
As for the voice acting, I liked it... It was their, better then Love-Ru...

I think that's the general consensus on this one, "Better then Love-Ru," though alot of things are better then Love-Ru....

As for this anime however; A World God Only Knows is really, really good, fun, funny, charming, tear-jerking... I recommend it highly for everything it does better then other stuff. Go watch it.

9/10
