Your Girlfriend can be the president, it is up to you!
But did this Visual Novel meet my expectations? Well...
Sad to say that my expectations were, "This was going to be alright," still, it surprised me in several aspects.
So, let's begin with this review of My Girlfriend is The President (Which will now be pronounced as MGFTP)
MGFTP is a romantic comedy political satire?
You "Play" a high-schooler named Junichirō Hondō, who one day finds himself Vice president of the United States of Nippon; while the president is his childhood friend and neighbor Yukino Ohama (Ohama = Obama... Comedy gold). Along with this, other friends, like Morita (A Gal gamer nerd), Ran Miyoshi (Older class-mate), and President Putina of Rusia (Putina = Putin, another golden moment).
Hijanks ensue as a conspiracy unfolds about galactic politics, and a romance is formed.
Now, there are things I really like about MGFTP, and things I really didn't like. For example, Hondo is a *poor* Main character, plot (In the two longest episodes, one and two!) is goofy, and just poorly paced. I really didn't like Ohama as-well; Finally, I didn't enjoy the lack of choices throughout the play-through.
Let me Explain
* What I enjoy from a MC in romantic animes is someone who is *defined*
By *defined* I do not mean that said person has a definite personality, just a personality they stick with; a personality that they can agree upon. Someone who isn't a hypocrite.
Hondo is a hypocrite, and I can't stand him. I can understand why women flock to Nagasumi (From my Bride's a Mermaid), or to Sasaki (From Girls Bravo!), or even to "Cherry Boy," (In B Gata H Kei), because hey, they are who they are, and they don't bull, and pretend to be something else while clearly... CLEARLY not being some they are not.
Hondo is a pervert... Who thinks he's a, "Gentlemen."
Women agree he is a "Gentlemen," fueling his "Gentlemen," ego.
The definition of gentlemen is someone who is, "a chivalrous, courteous, or honorable man."
Does $exual harrassement seem chivalrous, or, or does peeping on girls bathe seem, "Courteous," or hell, even "Honorable?" Or, or, does the making of perverted comments to all his female friends seem, "Chivalrous?" or hell, even "Courteous?"
This is Hondo's character... His entire character. And yet, we always hear how he is a "Gentlemen," my god, that pissed me off. Hondo is despicable, yet another type of character I don't like to see in any romantic anime (The other being Rito that prick, beating on poor Lala)
*Moving on to Ohama, the second character I will anger at (And sadly my first run choice. Puntina is my waifu still <3) is too *perfect*
What I mean by that is that she is beautiful, talented, popular, intelligent, trustworthy, and so forth. I don't understand why the hell the writers would think of something like that. I mean, she had two *Flaws* to speak of (Something you fools may defend as making her not *perfect*) But those said flaws (One being cooking, the other being the ability to stand up for herself.) are fixed before the end of the second episode! My god, she is formed to be perfect before the half-way point in episodes (There are four episodes.)
Also... She had H@ir fetish... Yeah, just something to point out.
*Stepping back, let's talk about the plot now. Episode one and two were filler, useless, pointless; except for the romance and little discussion of the over-arching story. Episode 3 was filler, building the relationship that bore fruit in the previous 2 episodes, with some exposition; while episode 4 probably was the most story heavy (Since, it was the conclusion.)
Along with this, I hated, absolutely hated the "Add-ins," that just popped in randomly.
They were just added to fix a damn random problem people! why do we need these things, why?
Needless to say, the game is like... 8 hours long, and could be cut to 6 or less hours to make the game better.
Guess you could say I thought the game, "Over-stayed its welcome."
*My last problem was the lack of choices... There are four choices (Six if you count the two H-scene; but those just are "Do you want to come in or out! With no point to the game.)
To make matters worse, the first choice pretty much locks you in to the girl you are going to run after. And on your first play-through, the only two people you can chase are Ohama, and Putina (The superior women in the game, so it's not that bad.)
This lack of choices really made the game feel... Bare, and before you cry, "HWEN, THIS IS A VN!"
KS is a VN, we had maybe 15 choices throughout it.
School Days was a VN, we maybe had 60 choices throughout it.
4 choices, and one being the only *Important* one is sickening, no-matter what the circumstance. It makes the player feel empty, and detached, and I didn't like it.
Now that we're down with the *Bad* elements of MGFTP, we can move on to the good stuff... And we'll start with a run-down.
Putina is best Waifu.
Side characters are hilarious
Education bits, though out of place, are hilarious
Last two episodes hold pretty well (Episode three though is eh, because it has too many H-scenes)
Love the art
Like the music
It's funny a-lot of the times... The comedy is solid
Now, the things I want to talk about specifically are the side-characters, which are the people other then Hondo, Ohama, and Putina.
They're fun, really fun. Hell, they are probably as good as say... Heaven's Lost property cast.
They just have great chemistry with Hondo, and they are just too fun. I specifically loved Morita, and just... He would take off his shirt at the most random of times, and I would laugh my ass off... My god he is awesome.
Another specific I enjoyed were the men of the Sauna Defense Squad. They are over-the-top, they are energetic; they speak english! They are just a fun group of characters.
Putina is awesome because she's attractive, but I also like her chemistry with everyone... She is a bit of cliche for being the "preppy" girl, however, she opens up, and I found her extremely likable (She actually reminded me alot of Tsukiumi from Sekirei. She's my favorite.)
Well, that's my opinion. If you like her too, then I respect your opinion too.
So, that's the gist of things for My GF is The President. Do I recommend it? Uh, yeah, sure. Play it before 2016 though, because once Obama's gone from office this game will be pointless.
Two fan-disc were added to the game, both can be found online. They add more girls which is cool; so seriously, check it out. It's pretty good, and stuff.
